Relevate One’s AIMEE

Overview

Relevate develops enterprise software that powers trade organizations, specifically REALTOR® associations and Multiple Listing Service (MLS) organizations. In simple terms, they build the operational backbone these organizations use to manage hundreds of thousands of real estate professionals—handling everything from dues and event registrations to continuing education and member support.

The Challenge

In this ecosystem, a single "member file" is massive and highly fragmented. For one professional, the data might stretch back decades, encompassing payment histories, course completions, event attendance, and committee service. For association staff, synthesizing this data across thousands of members to answer a simple question was a monumental, time-consuming task.

Modern.tech has a deep, ongoing development partnership with Relevate, having built their flagship Relevate One platform launched in 2025. When observing the ongoing administrative bottlenecks association staff still faced daily, we recognized an opportunity to elevate the platform further. The solution wasn't just a better search bar; it was a context-aware AI assistant.

The Solution: AI-powered Assistant for Staff and Members (AIMEE)

AIMEE is an AI-powered assistant designed to synthesize complex administrative histories into actionable insights. Rather than forcing staff to hunt through disparate databases, AIMEE aggregates operational data—such as engagement metrics, support tickets, and renewal status—to generate a comprehensive "Member Story."

For association staff, this means instantly identifying if a member's engagement has dropped before a renewal cycle, or flagging candidates for committee invitations based on past activity. By focusing strictly on organizational and administrative interactions, AIMEE empowers staff to manage member relationships more effectively.

We also developed a member-facing version of AIMEE for the Relevate One Portal. Members can ask questions about their accounts, register for events, open support tickets, and access member-only documents—all through a conversational interface.

Our Approach: Engineering the Solution

Our development process began by shadowing the daily workflows of association staff. We quickly identified a critical bottleneck: a seemingly simple task, like answering a membership renewal question, required staff to dig through four separate systems and took up to twenty minutes per query. The data existed, but it was entirely siloed.

We determined that a generative AI solution was the most efficient way to bridge these silos. However, standard AI models lack secure, real-time access to private enterprise databases. To solve this, Modern.tech engineered a Model Context Protocol (MCP). In layman’s terms, an MCP acts as a secure translator. It allows the AI to safely query Relevate’s specific internal databases in real-time to answer a user’s prompt, without exposing that proprietary data to public AI models.

We built AIMEE directly on top of Relevate’s complex business rules. Before writing the core feature code, our team mapped exactly how the organization defines member engagement, structures permissions, and categorizes status. AIMEE doesn’t just fetch data; it applies Relevate’s proprietary logic to summarize administrative histories accurately.

Architecting for control and scale

Beyond the user experience, Modern.tech architected the backend to give Relevate total control over their AI infrastructure. Because AI computing costs can scale unpredictably, we built a model-agnostic routing system. This allows the Relevate team to seamlessly swap which AI models handle specific tasks—weighing speed versus cost—with built-in budget limits and real-time spend visibility.

Relevate’s MCP Server: Real-Time AI Integration

Alongside the Relevate team, the Model Context Protocol became the next priority in the roadmap.

The goal of the MCP is for an authorized Relevate user to work with permissioned, real-time member data directly inside tools like Claude or ChatGPT, with no CSV exports and no separate integration to build and maintain for each AI tool.

Member data is sensitive, so the server enforces permissions down to the individual record. It’s meant to serve that data in real time as records change and move it out to third-party tools without loosening Relevate’s own security.

“Working with Modern.tech gave us an AI architecture that actually understands our business rules. As we roll AIMEE out to our users, it’s going to drastically cut down the hours our staff spends digging through files, freeing them up to focus on what matters most: serving our members.” – Mark Richburg, CEO, Relevate

Looking ahead, Relevate is in a great position to grow AIMEE’s capabilities. Because they now have this foundational MCP architecture in place, their team can easily introduce new features or plug in tomorrow’s best AI models without having to rebuild everything from scratch.

For us at Modern.tech, this project perfectly highlights what we love to do. We build the custom AI products and enterprise MCP servers that clear up frustrating data bottlenecks. Whether that means bridging disconnected databases, setting up secure AI infrastructure, or building smart assistants like AIMEE, our goal is to turn messy, siloed data into something teams can actually use.
